Together with Organ cannons and Trollhammers quicly reduce threat from large units. Gyrocopters with Brimstone guns are nice support. Irondrakes just melt all type of non-large units at range, when Trollhammer torpedoes wreck large units and heroes.

Thunderrers are very good and universal unit, but they aren't as good as more specialized units. They can be used to make Hammer and Anvil or support shielded infantry against armored units. Great Weapons units aren't very good to hold position, but together with shielded melee units doing nice combo.
